Philip Hood

Chief Operating Officer and Co-Founder

Philip Hood is a co-founder of Emerytus Advisors and one of the profession’s leading experts in technical accounting and financial reporting. With over 25 years of experience across public accounting, industry consulting, and standard-setting, Philip brings an unmatched depth of insight to the firm’s clients. His career spans roles at Ernst & Young, nearly a decade at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), and senior leadership in high-growth advisory firms.

Before co-founding Emerytus, Philip served as a Managing Director at Chord Advisors (now part of WilliamsMarston), where he led the firm’s national technical accounting practice for revenue recognition. He advised more than 100 public, private, and pre-IPO companies on the adoption of ASC 606 and played a key role in building one of the most respected specialty practices in the country.

Earlier in his career, Philip spent 10 years at the FASB, where he helped shape the very standard he would later help companies implement—ASU 2014-09, Revenue from Contracts with Customers. His work at the FASB included technical projects on leases, pensions, consolidations, discontinued operations, and more, as well as direct engagement with preparers, auditors, and regulators on some of the most complex issues in U.S. GAAP.

Philip began his career at EY in audit, earning early promotion to Manager and working with clients across a range of industries. He is a CPA in Connecticut and holds both an MBA (Finance) and a BS in Accounting from Fairfield University, where he graduated magna cum laude.

Outside the Office

When he’s not advising clients, Philip enjoys time with his family, sailing, playing paddle tennis, and working on his golf game—one swing at a time.
