Mukul Gupta

Senior Advisor - Accounting & Reporting

Summary

Mukul Gupta is a senior accounting and financial reporting advisor with over 25 years of experience leading technical accounting, SEC reporting, controllership, and finance transformation initiatives for global organizations. He brings deep expertise across US GAAP, IFRS, regulatory reporting, and internal controls, supporting companies through complex reporting requirements, regulatory scrutiny, and periods of significant change.

Mukul has held senior leadership roles at Bloomberg LP, American Express, Fannie Mae, and PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he led corporate accounting, accounting policy, and financial reporting teams, and served as a trusted advisor to executive management, audit committees, and regulators. His experience includes public-company-level reporting, multinational consolidations, treasury and tax accounting oversight, and the design of scalable, best-in-class finance and reporting functions.

As Deputy Corporate Controller at Bloomberg LP, Mukul led global accounting teams providing US GAAP and IFRS guidance across regions and preparing consolidated financial statements presented to the Audit Committee. He also oversaw accounting policy, internal controls, and key accounting operations supporting treasury and tax. He also led financial due diligence for multiple strategic acquisitions, including transactions exceeding $1 billion, coordinating accounting, finance, tax, and external advisory workstreams.

As Vice President and Controller at American Express, Mukul led the controllership team for the U.S. Consumer Card Services segment and the global controllership team responsible for accounting and reporting of loans and credit reserves. In this role, he provided US GAAP and IFRS accounting guidance on credit losses to global finance teams, supporting consistent application across jurisdictions. Mukul also spearheaded multiple regulatory and structural initiatives, including American Express’s transition to a bank holding company, which required enhanced governance, regulatory reporting, and internal controls.

Earlier in his career, Mukul served in the Accounting Policy team at Fannie Mae, where he was a key member of the financial restatement team, and at PwC, advising clients across banking, technology, communications, and media on audit and accounting matters.

In his current role as an independent consultant, Mukul advises clients on technical accounting implementation, SEC and regulatory reporting, finance transformation, and complex transactions, and provides interim leadership during senior finance vacancies. He is particularly valued for his ability to translate complex accounting and reporting issues into clear, actionable guidance for boards, audit committees, and senior executives.

Mukul is known for combining rigorous technical judgment with a pragmatic, business-focused advisory approach.
